@johnbaxter85694 years ago I was stationed in salalah in 1974 with the british army. We often went on re-supply hikes up the jebal when the heli' s were down or not available. it was an amazing time in my life and seeing that country of 1974 change into the beautiful country we have today is wonderful. I fell in love with the country and its people. God bless oman. A true friend. ...Expand 119

@user-zq4ph9mv6s7 years ago I' m from dhofar and my uncle told me how scary july 19th, 1972 was.
adooattacked town of mirbat at early foggy morning they were more than 200 armed soldiers with thier klashinkovs agains 9 men of sas who struggled bravely defending the town till aerial support arrived which was the deciding factor of the battle.
people of mirbat still remembered that day and paying tribute to those who sacrificed themselves to defend peace. And imagine if the assault succeded it would be a horrible massacre for civillians!

@user-ik3ft7zo2l5 years ago Calm down guys, the main role of wining the war was for the forces of feeraq (formed fromjabali) as mentioned by the british general plus allies england, iran and jordan, otherwise oman would not have brought all these armies to oman to the fight revolution which was supported by china yemen and soviet union. ...Expand 4

@0NoFreeWill0last year Before the communists organized the insurgency, under the previous sultan, a slave-owning absolute despot, the dhofar region was a personal fief of the you can see all this in the documentary the hour of liberation has arrived, made by a lebanese woman. Her and her crew walked 500km across the desert to film the fighting. Raf were bombing civilians and destroying wells and other infrastructure these people needed to survive.
it rather resembles the kurdish women serving in the ypg, and the overall situation is also similar, as well as to currentconflict in the western sahara. While the rebellion was put down (as commentators note, most work done by turncoat rebels (those who wanted autonomypaid by the new sultan) a much larger portion of iranian troops (and other gulf regimes to uk troops) the insurgents were supported by other states (including saudis) but mainly by the south yemeni peoples republic of yemen, who shared a border

@richardwood74453 years ago After many years of viewing militaryby imperial agents whether is be uk, us or others it is always the pompous officers who get to speak and the down and dirty soldier who never gets to say a word. I know this is an " old docy" but today the afgan and iraiy films still give the same message. At the end of the day the man on the ground gets nailed and the political a-holes and officers have a lot of words and little actions. As an ex sadf guy (who saw no action) i feel for the guys who give their all and then the political a holes turn their back on the foot soldier! At the end of the day whether is was 1939 or 2021 the politicians and tops ranks speak and the guys on the ground suffers. ...Expand 2
