How baby Painted Turtles protect themselves from predators and earn the name "Painted" Turtle. For more on this rescued clutch of baby turtles visit: www.naturenorth.com/winter/Painted_Turtle/Turtle_Blog.html Keeping Wild Turtles as Pets? For my activities with the Manitoba Herps Atlas I hold permits from Manitoba Conservation allowing me to keep certain wildlife species in captivity. Officially, under this province's Wildlife Act it is illegal to possess a wild animal without such permits. Most wild animals require specialized care in captivity and don't usually make good pets anyway. If you do find yourself dealing with injured or rescued wildlife you're best to contact one of Manitoba's wildlife rescue agencies (Wildlife Haven or Prairie Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre). But if you do need their help with wildlife issues please consider helping them with a donation. Both are underfunded, receiving little support from our government. If you think Manitoba Conservation should do more to help injured and rescued wildlife consider sending an email to the Minister of Conservation. It's YOUR tax dollars after all, they don't all have to be spent on promoting and managing hunting, trapping and fishing.
