Caused by the Varicella Zoster Virus causes an extremely itchy and uncomfortable rash 🕕Rash will show up about 2 weeks after exposure 🐞Consists of lesions of 3 types: red spots (macules), fluid filled lesions (vesicular), and crusted lesions- Once MOST lesions are crusted over contagiousness decreases significantly 💉Vaccine started in 1995- vaccinated children can still get a rash but disease course and the rash will be more mild than non vaccinated. ➡️Treatment is usually symptom supportive: tylenol, motrin, anti itch creams, antihistamines (NOT benadryl) 👍Rash will resolved and go away on its own usually without complications ✳️There are certain populations that could have a more severe disease and could benefit from antiviral medications- if you might be in the population call you pediatrician if you notice signs of Chicken Pox. #Chickenpox #varicellazostervirus #rash
