The Over Night Train from Bangkok - Chiang Mai

I travelled to Chiang Mai on the Overnight train which took roughly 16 hours. It is a long journey by train but there is a great sense of adventure and journey and it really harks back to an age where an adventure was something more than booking a cheap airline ticket to join the masses! I travelled in second class as I had left it too late with 1st class all sold out, the cabin was air-conditioned and was quite cool so bring a sweater. The train stops many times during the night which made sleeping rather difficult I will admit and the noise of the tracks was sometimes just a little too much. However I think it should be on every travellers itinerary if you want to visit Chiang Mai and it is an incredibly cheap and sustainable way to travel. Filmed on February 24th/25th 2011
